Established in September 2000 by the Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Mr Valli Moosa, the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA) is the only officially recognised quality assurance body for tourism products in South Africa. Operating as a business unit of South African Tourism, the TGCSA’s vision is to implement a recognisable and credible globally benchmarked system of quality assurance for accommodation and MESE (Meetings Exhibitions and Special Events) experiences, which can be relied upon by visitors when making their choice of establishment.

The NAA-SA is a national association, bringing together local and provincial networks and associations throughout the country. Just as membership of the ‘Master Builders Association’ means that a provider of building services offers reputable and reliable service, so too the NAA-SA plays an important quality assurance role in the accommodation industry. NAA-SA membership assures those looking for accommodation in smaller establishments that they can expect quality, reputable service and value for money - and recourse if this is not the case.

The KwaZulu-Natal Tourism Authority, which operates under the name Tourism KwaZulu-Natal, is responsible for the development, promotion and marketing of tourism into and within the province. The Authority’s statement of intent and direction is drawn from the mandate vested in the Organisation by the KwaZulu-Natal Tourism Act, 1996 (as amended, including No. 2 of 2002).

When it comes to finding independently owned luxury accommodation in South Africa and Swaziland, Portfolio is your trusted and reliable friend. We’ve met the owners, stayed in the rooms, taken in the views, enjoyed the meals to ensure that your experience is the best.
